ConnectEd Message 4/2/20 Distance Learning

Good evening Leewood K-8 Center families,

This is Mr. Christie, principal of Leewood K-8 Center, I would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of our families who have become teachers in the past few weeks. We know that this is a difficult time for our students, our parents, and also our teachers. Thank you for staying encouraged, for helping us to educate your little ones, and for being patient and understanding as we all work through each day to improve our distance learning process.

I am reaching out to you this evening with a few important updates. Thursday April 2nd and Friday April 3rd, teachers will not have office hours, as they will be attending Professional Development sessions. Your children will still receive assignments to complete. However if there are any questions or concerns, the teachers will respond to you on Monday. We recognize that this may not be ideal, however, we are working hard to learn about online platforms and teachers will be in virtual classes on these two days.

Beginning Monday, April 6th, student attendance will be recorded daily when each student logs into their student portal. Therefore, please make sure each student is logging in to their portal daily. Students should be engaged in the distance learning each day. They will receive one grade minimum per week for each of their classes. Weekly assignments will be issued by your child’s teachers and you should communicate with each teacher directly if you have concerns about lessons, platforms, and due dates.

At this time, schools will remain closed at least through May 1, 2020.  Food distribution continues throughout Dade-County and you can find a list of open distribution sites at www.dadeschools.net.  Our website links include a list of our instructional platforms by teacher, teacher email addresses, and recommended schedules to maintain routines at home. As well, helpful documents are available to assist with accessing online textbooks, Zoom sessions, and our Counselor’s Corner. Please visit the website and social media accounts regularly for weekly updates.

We are here to help you and to work together as a team for your child. Please reach out to our administration, faculty, and staff via email if you are in need. Please continue to stay home and keep yourselves and our community safe. We miss all of our students and look forward to getting back into our classrooms with all of them. Until then, be well, be safe, and be blessed.

Regards,

Mr. Bart Christie
